The Government of the Republic of suriname has exempted the visa requirement for holders of passports of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of France and its overseas territory French Guyana, the United States of America, Canada, India, United Kingdom and the Vatican City State to Further facilitate the movement of persons to Suriname for purposes of tourism and for family visits for a period of 90 days, which will enter into force on 1 May 2022.

In accordance with this unilateral visa exemption, abovementioned nationals who are going to travel visa free, starting 01 May 2022 and nationals who are currently travelling visa free under the existing bilateral visa exemption agreements to the Republic of Suriname, shall pay on each entry to the territory of the Republic of Suriname an Entry-Fee of US$25 or €25, to be paid via the online application of VFS Global Suriname.

  1. What is the ‘’Entry Fee’’ ?                                                                                                                                                                                                      The ‘’Entry Fee’’ is the amount that every eligible foreigner must pay upon each entry into Suriname. On presentation of the payment receipt, the traveller will be   granted entry.
  1. How to pay the Entry Fee ?                                                                                                                                                                                                        The entry Fee can be paid via the VFS Web application or upon arrival in Suriname at the Johan Adolf Pengel Airport or the Zorg en Hoop airport at the Consular office. Persons traveling from French Guyana can pay the fee at the Consulate General of the Republic of Suriname in Cayenne  and at the Dependence of the Consulate General at Saint Laurent Du Maroni in French Guyana. Persons traveling from Guyana can pay the fee upon arrival in Suriname at Canawaima Management N.V. at Southdrain, Nickerie.
  1. What documents are required when paying the Entry Fee ?                                                                                                                                         Payment of the Entry Fee requires a valid passport with validity of at least 6 months.
  1. How much do youp ay for the Entry Fee?                                                                                                                                                                             The Entry Fee is $25 or €25 and paid for each entry into Suriname.
  1. How long can you stay in Suriname by paying the Entry Fee?                                                                                                                                          From the day of entry, passport holders of the Netherlands, Belgium, France and French Guyana, the United States of America, United Kingdom, India, Canada and Vatican City can stay in Suriname for up to 90 days.
  1. What if someone has arrived in Suriname and has paid the Entry Fee and leaves for another country before the expiry of 90 days but returns within the 90 days. Does he/she have to pay again?                                                                                                                                                                         The person or persons involved will have to pay the Entry Fee again
  1. Who will pay the Fee?                                                                                                                                                                                                           The following persons must pay the entry Fee:
  • Persons who have the nationality of one of the countries with which Suriname has concluded a Unilateral visa abolition agreement, including: The Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United States of America, United Kingdom, India and Canada and nationals who currently travelling visa free under the existing bilateral visa exemption agreements to the Republic of Suriname.
  • Persons who were born in Suriname and currently have another nationality.
  • Persons who have the nationality of one of the countries with which Suriname has an existing bilateral visa abolition agreement and has as a result exempted from the visa requirement.
  1. Which persons, countries or International Organizations are excluded from this measures ?                                                                                   - Citizens of all Member Countries of the CARICOM                                                                                                                                                                   -Members belonging to the accredited and non-accredited Embassies, Consulate General and International Organizations in Suriname                                             -Holders of diplomatic, service, official and Laisser Passez travel documents.
  1. Persons who are holders of :
  • A valid visa or tourist card
  • A valid PSA document
  1. Does this arrangement also apply to family members of persons born in Suriname ?                                                                                                     This arrangement also applies to family members of persons who were born in Suriname and who currently hold a nationality of one of the countries who, as a   result of the visa abolition agreement with Suriname, may travel visa-free to Suriname ( See list of nationality eligible for payment of the Entry Fee)
  1. Can Surinamese citizens also travel visa-free to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United States of America, Canada and Vatican City due to this arrangement ?                                                                                                                                                                                                           Surinamese citizens can not travel visa-free to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United States of america, Canada and Vatican City. Surinamese citizens will have to apply for a visa for these countries and Vatican City.
  1. Can you also work and study in Suriname under this arrangement?                                                                                                                                  Persons can only travel to Suriname visa-free for tourist purposes and family visits. Person scan only travel for business or wishing to work and study in Suriname will need to apply for the appropriate visa (business visa or short stay visa respectively).
  1. Will the previous measures lapse the existing ones;PSA,visa-free travel for people over 65, Visa-free travel for people of Surinamese origin?          The PSA arrangement is still in affect and with this new measure Holders of the PSA document are exempted from payment of the Entry Fee. The measure regarding visa-free travel for people over 65 remains, but persons who make use of this arrangement will also be subject to the Entry Fee
  1. Do persons who still have a valid visa have to pay the Entry Fee?                                                                                                                                 Persons with a visa do not have to pay the Entry Fee. The Entry Fee will only have to paid for each entry after the visa has expired.
